Common Name Glue crust, glue fungus Fruiting Body Crust like, firmly attached to the substrate, reddish brown to dark brown, smooth, wrinkled or granular, often irregularly cracked Flesh Hard, brittle Smell Indistinct Taste Indistinct Season Found throughout the year, but actively growing in autumn and summer Distribution Very common Habitat On dead and living wood from deciduous trees, favouring hazel. Often filling gaps between adjacent branches, giving the appearance of gluing them together. Spore Print White Microscopic Features Spores cylindrical, smooth (4.5-6) x (1.5-2) µm2. Basidia 4 spored. Hyphal system monomitic. Setae fusiform, thick walled, brown. Edibility Inedible Notes The fungus turns black in KOH.
